TORONTO – On Saturday, December 23, 2017, the classic charm and pageantry of The Nutcracker returns to Toronto for its 10th annual performance for not only one, but TWO shows. Toronto International Ballet Theatre’s (TIBT) Artistic Director, Tatiana Stepanova, invites the public to experience the imperial beauty The Nutcracker has to offer.

The performance will be featuring guest artists from the world-renowned Moscow’s Bolshoi Ballet, principal dancers Anastasia Stashkevich and Vyacheslav Lopatin. Their aerial and spirited dancing is supported by enchanting tapestry with custom made costumes and set designs adorning the stage.

The stage will not only be hosting talent from the Bolshoi Ballet but also dancers from Japan, Vancouver and more! These incredible dancers have come to Toronto to showcase their skills and perform on one of Canada’s biggest stage. Performing abroad in a production of The Nutcracker with premier dancers, was once a dream of theirs but now a reality.

Based on the classical version of The Nutcracker, which is performed by the world’s top ballet companies, Artistic Director Tatiana Stepanova has retained the ballet’s traditional beauty, enhancing it with her innovative vision and exquisite choreography.

TIBT’s version of the holiday classic brings out the strengths of the community of dancers and interjects a fresh and fun atmosphere to the traditional tale of a Christmas dream; providing a unique experience to all who attend.

The Nutcracker will take the stage at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts on Saturday, December 23, 2017 @ 2:00pm & 7:00pm.  Ticket prices range from $60-$130. Tickets are available through Sony Centre Box Office at

About TIBT:

Toronto International Ballet Theatre (TIBT) began long before its first public performance in 2008. It began with a vision by the Artistic Director, Tatiana Stepanova. Upon her many years experience teaching in Canada, she noticed that there is little opportunity for young aspiring dancers to perform in a professional production. Knowing this is invaluable experience for dancer, experience that cannot be taught in a dance studio, Tatiana started making her vision a reality.

After years of planning, Toronto International Ballet Theatre (TIBT) came into fruition in 2008. The name would soon symbolize the combination of local talents with international professionals. TIBT was to occupy a niche within the ballet landscape which was to provide a different experience to the dance and the dance community. Local young talent, international stars, original choreography, beautiful sets and an intimate setting provides a unique experience to the audience.

In December of 2008, after a lot of of hard work and dedications from staff and dancers, TIBT had its inaugural performance of The Nutcracker. The performance saw an enormously positive response from the audience as the first two shows were sold out! Audience young and old were touched by the beauty of the productions, with many gasps and even some tears. The Nutcracker was to become TIBT’s core and its building block.
